Kevin Loughrey graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1972 with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. For 23 years, four of which were on exchange with the British Army, he served in the Army rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During that time, he was responsible for a number of innovations that significantly added to the defence preparedness and capabilities of Australia. He left the Army in 1991 and held a variety of senior management appointments.
